The Commissioner of Revenue is elected to serve the people of Chesapeake.
As your Commissioner, I commit to bringing the following services to the taxpayers of Chesapeake:
Town Halls
I will attend all town hall meetings with information and resources to provide support & information about tax code that affects you, your family, and Chesapeake.
Startup Workshops
I will sponsor a series of workshops to provide guidance for small-business owners based on stage & industry.
Commissioner of Revenue website
I will establish an easy-to-navigate website & social media platforms that will keep you informed of any changes, deadlines, or points of interest related to the Commissioner's duties.
I will dedicate clearly-identified space on the website to publish the city's sources of revenue and expenses
Workshops for Seniors and their Caregivers
I will attend civic league meetings throughout the year to inform & support seniors and their caregivers of available relief options & how to take advantage of them.
Combined City Services
I will look for opportunities to reduce city spending by exploring city services that can be consolidated or reimagined.
Income Tax Workshops
During February & March, I will provide income tax workshops at civic league meetings throughout Chesapeake.
Board of Equalization
I will establish an active Board of Equalization that will meet regularly to determine the fairness of assessed property values
A Taxpayer-Friendly Appeals Process
I will streamline & make public the process for taxpayers who would like to appeal their property tax assessments
And of course, as Commissioner of Revenue, I will always champion the financial well-being of the people who call Chesapeake home for themselves or their business.
As Commissioner of Revenue, I ultimately hope to assist lawmakers who are advocating policy to improve citizens' and small business owners' financial security.
